3 Affordable JDM Legends

Posted by

If you're a JDM fan, you're almost undoubtedly familiar with nearly everything we're going to mention on this list. Although, unless you've been browsing the classifieds, you'll likely be a bit surprised with the price some of these JDM classics are fetching. We didn't go overboard with this one, so don't expect R34 Skline GT-Rs, but you can expect near identical awesome levels.

Subaru Impreza WRX STI

The classic rally car can now be yours for around $14,000, provided you do your research. Mind you, it will be higher mileage car, so there's that. The boxer motor is known to be pretty reliable, but when it does let go, it can be rather expensive, particularly because not a lot of people know how to work on a boxer. Still, a 300 bhp car which can be had for under $15k is a great proposition, you'll agree. Stretching the budget to $20k will see a nice, preserved car. Anything beyond and you're looking at either the newer generation STI or one with next to no miles.

Mitsubishi Lancer EVO

The other legendary rally car, the STI's biggest rival also made it onto this list. It's no surprise really. The four-cylinder 4G63 is capable of delivering staggering amounts of power through tuning and upgrades, remaining reliable through all of that. Mind you, there is a premium price to pay. The high-mileage ads start at around $17k, some 2-3 grand dearer than the Subie. In most cases you're either an Evo or an STI fan, so if you've got your sights on the Evolution, the price won't discourage you probably.

Acura Integra DC2 Type R

Adding a turbocharged Nissan S-chassis car to this list would have been too predictable, so we went the exact opposite path: a naturally aspirated, high-revving Acura (Honda), that's also front-wheel drive. In all honesty, the drift tax has taken the S-cars to insane levels, making them nearly not worth it. But then again, the Integra isn't exactly cheap as well. It too, starts at around $17k, much like the Lancer, but it's extremely rare. That's right, the Integra Type R has become a unicorn. Prices will only go up, and there's not much for sale.
